So GenuineAlexReid and I are taking this scrap heap into the mountains for a road trip. The death wish continues. For those that don’t know, Alex has literally built the majority of this car from sheet steel and old VW fenders. The man has repaired rust in places I didn’t even know cars had. It’s going to be quite the trip. Photos by Alex.

It’ll get them when I stroke it to 2L, it overcarburates the 1600.

Are you worried about losing revs once you stroke it? I don’t know Roadsters all that well, but the generally rev-happy nature of small na engines in small cars is kind of what makes them magnificent in my opinion.

2 liters is the perfect amount of engine

What mountains?

haven’t decided yet! Basing the trip from Calgary gives us plenty of options.

I’m really not sure, it’s kind of a long term plan more than a need. Basically it’s a drop-in crankshaft and rods sourced from a Nissan H20 forklift.

You guys have a much better life than most, this sounds stupid fun. Should make for a good story!

Yeah, although the Datsun 2000 engine is kinda funny in that you have to choose revs or idling, they don’t like to do both. I prefer the 1600 pushrod mill.

Better just do the safe thing and drop a 4AGE in. Silvertops are really cheap, I bet no one has done it, and probably weighs about the same, but puts out around 150 hp and revs to 8400. It would be glorious!

Thanks! It’ll be quite the feature when we’re done.

Alex and the Datsun are based in Calgary

Everybody does it, there’s a company called Spriso that specializes in Datsun roadster engine swaps. I take issue with putting a new engine in an old car, it takes away the soul. Plus, a stroked Datsun engine puts out 150hp, and then I get to have 2 glorious weber carburetors! Mmmm.

We also have a lot less common sense than most, haha
